Full Color Ribbons by Anime Los Angeles

At Anime Los Angeles, attendees can create full-color custom ribbons, offering vibrant and detailed designs printed directly onto white satin ribbon. Unlike traditional foil ribbons, which use stamped foil designs, these full-color ribbons provide greater design flexibility and creative freedom.

Ribbon Making During the Convention

Prefer to create or print ribbons during the event? Visit the Ribbon Station in the Exhibit Hall to order your ribbons on-site. We offer same-day printing with an average 1–2 hour turnaround, depending on queue size and material availability.

To keep things fair and organized, we now offer three appointment types, each available in limited quantities on a first-come, first-served basis.

It’s extremely important to choose the correct appointment type to ensure you get the ribbons you want.

Choosing the Right Appointment Type

Your Ribbon Situation
You need design help, or you didn’t use our template
You used our templates and have print-ready artwork
You want more of a ribbon we printed for you this year
Choose This Option
Regular Appointment
Express
Re-Print

All options have limited availability and fill quickly. Regular Appointments can be booked days in advance, but Express and Re-Order slots are only available same-day.

Option 1: Regular Appointment

For attendees who need design help or aren’t using our templates.

Book a 30-minute session with one of our digital artists to design your ribbons on-site.

  • Ideal if you’re starting from scratch or want help formatting your artwork.
  • Bring any logos, text, and font ideas to make the most of your time.
  • Appointment sign-ups open closer to the event.

Option 2: Express List

For attendees who already have their ribbon artwork finalized and print-ready.

If your design is already finished and follows our Design Requirements exactly, you can skip the design session and go straight to printing.

How to join the Express List:

  1. Prepare Your Design: Use the provided Artwork Templates in the Design Requirements to prepare your finalized artwork. Artwork should be submitted exactly as you would like it to appear on the ribbon with no edits required.
  2. Book: Choose the Express List option on our Booking Page and complete your sign-up.
  3. Email Us: Send your design to ribbonstation@animelosangeles.org with the subject line “Express Request – [Your Name]” and include the quantity you would like to purchase.
  4. Visit the Ribbon Station: During the convention, go directly to the Ribbon Making table and wait in line until a staff member is available to assist you. We will confirm your order details and collect your contact information so we can notify you once the ribbons are ready.

Important:

Express appointments are the fastest option for attendees who already have everything ready to go. Please double-check your files before sending to avoid delays.

  • If we receive artwork without a booking, we cannot process your request.
  • Likewise, if you book a slot but your artwork doesn’t meet our guidelines, we cannot proceed with your order.

Option 3: Re-Orders During the Event

For attendees who want to re-order ribbons we already printed for them this year.

If you had ribbons made for this year’s ALA and want more of the same design, you can book a Re-Print Appointment for quick reprints.

  • Re-prints are only available for designs created at this year’s Anime Los Angeles.
  • Book a Re-Print Appointment using the link on this page or by scanning the QR code at the Ribbon Station.
  • When you arrive at your appointment, our staff will confirm your design file on record before reprinting.

Important:

  • If you book a re-print slot but do not have a design from this year, we will not be able to assist you.

Quantity Guidelines

To ensure efficiency, the following guidelines apply when ordering ribbons during the convention:

  • Maximum of 4 designs per appointment slot.
  • Total cap of 200 ribbons per appointment slot.

Examples:

  • 50 ribbons each of 4 designs.
  • 100 ribbons of one design, 50 of another, and 25 each of two additional designs.

These limits ensure your order can be completed on time and without delaying others in the queue.

Design Requirements

Whether you’re ordering before or during the event, please ensure that your design follows these guidelines:

  • Edge to Edge Imprint Space*
    • Standard Ribbons: 4”x1”
    • Large Ribbons: 4”x2”
  • Submit designs in high-resolution PNG or PSD format for the best results (300 DPI recommended). Avoid solid or predominantly black designs, as these may not print well on white satin.

*Ribbons are ½” taller than the imprint space, to allow blank space for tape.

Ribbons FAQ

What are ribbons?

Ribbons are collectible fabric strips that attach to your convention badge. They come in all kinds of designs and are traded, gifted, and earned throughout the weekend.

Why are ribbons important?

They enhance the Anime Los Angeles experience by acting as icebreakers, collectibles, and unique ways to engage with fellow attendees, vendors, and artists.

What is the Ribbon Station?

The Ribbon Station is Anime Los Angeles’ official ribbon hub! We offer free and paid activities to earn ribbons during the convention, and also offer in-house services for designing and printing custom ribbons before and during the convention.

How far in advance should you buy ribbons?

It’s recommended to order at least two months ahead since vendors have cutoff dates due to high demand. The Ribbon Station accepts pre-orders closer to the event and offers limited on-site capacity.

Where do you go if you have more questions?

Before the event, email us at ribbonstation@animelosangeles.org. You can also join the Anime Los Angeles Discord to ask ribbon enthusiasts for advice. During the event, visit the Ribbon Station in the exhibit hall.

Do I have to collect ribbons to enjoy the convention?

Not at all. Ribbons are completely optional, but many attendees find they’re one of the most fun and social traditions at ALA.
